1. Class B Autoclave Compliance
Audited clinics must utilize fractionated vacuum Class B autoclaves (the gold standard in global medical sterilization) rather than standard Class N gravity sterilizers. Class B autoclaves pull active vacuum pulses to ensure steam penetrates hollow handpieces, burs, and surgical cassettes.
2. Biological Spore Testing Logs
Autoclave gauges can sometimes malfunction. Clinics are audited for regular biological indicator spore tests (using Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores) processed by accredited testing laboratories, confirming absolute bacterial spore destruction.
3. Dental Unit Waterline Biofilm Audits
Dental unit waterlines are narrow tubing systems susceptible to microbial biofilm accumulation. Audit protocols verify active waterline disinfection regimens to ensure patient rinse water is microbial-free.
4. Chemical Indicator Tapes & Sealed Pouches
All surgical cassette sets and diagnostic probes must be sealed in sterile pouches featuring color-changing chemical indicators that confirm pressure-steam exposure.
